History
Our foundations were laid in 2001 when Kyle McKinnon first accepted an invitation to help lead the youth ministry at a church in Bicester to focus on forming a disciple-making youth ministry in this local church. The dream was to develop relationships with young people in the schools and community and invite them to explore issues of faith and spirituality. The strategy was not about running events or programmes, (though we do lots of fun things!) but rather building relationships with young people and helping them to discover a relationship with God. Those young people who discovered faith would then be equipped to share their faith with their peers, starting a movement of young people coming to Jesus.
In 2003 the Reign Ministries team grew when Darin and Joy Stevens moved to Bicester as well as when Kyle married his wife Jane. The vision for disciple-making grew as the team dreamed of training emerging youth ministers who would lead according to Jesus’ strategy of disciple-making.
In 2005 this dream started to become a reality as Reign Ministries joined with other youth ministry pioneers in the UK to develop ICY UK (International Christian Youthworks). The vision of ICY UK is to raise up a generation of disciple-making Christian youth ministers by placing them in pioneering local church youth contexts whilst earning a qualification.
In addition to the ongoing ministry in Bicester, as well as the youth minister training scheme, we are now expanding our mission experiences abroad to include trainee youth ministers and young people across the country. We have seen the impact of exposing the young people of Bicester to the world’s need for Jesus as we have mission teams to Scotland, Greece, Albania and Moldova. We dream of seeing this impact multiplied.
Whilst Reign Ministries as an organisation is relatively young, the leadership all have prior experience in an organisation that has existed for 25 years and has taken thousands of young people on mission to places all over the globe. We hold a strong conviction that teenagers can effectively share their faith with others and we believe young people have a key role to play in the Great Commission.
