The Power of Practical Training

In September of 2007, I was at a cross roads in my life, deciding whether to back to work as a sales representative or to be bold and start a new career in youth work.  I had spent two years working for a charity in Bolton using sport as a tool to spread the gospel and I knew that I was gifted at youth work.  So, after a difficult few months of uncertainty, I decided to look into the programme ICY-UK was offering.  I am delighted to say that my decision to join ICY-UK was the best decision I have ever made and was definitely what God wanted me to do. My role as an ICY-UK intern was to work in a local secondary school three days a week mentoring young people and basically being a Christian influence to the pupils and teachers.  Along with this work in the school, I was given excellent teaching and support from my cluster leader and group. We would meet as a group every Thursday and spend time sharing, supporting each other, and learning.  I have learned more in the last three years about the Bible than I had in the previous thirty years of my life!  I had a fantastic time and would highly recommend ICY-UK purely based on this.  However, it doesn’t just stop there - there is also the Degree that is on offer.  Three years of bi-monthly, week-long retreats filled with teaching, sharing, supporting, learning, and much more have helped to develop me as Christian and as a person.  ICY-UK has definitely been a life changing experience.  Written by Jon Cardy
