Greenhouse Challenge 72 by Scott Goossen

A few weeks ago we took the team of GreenHouse students to Belfast, Northern Ireland for an intensive missional experiment. This was a time of exploring and interacting with St. Patrick’s story and Jesus’ sending out the 72 disciples (Luke 10:1-20). We prayed that God would lead the trip and impact each of our lives.
So guess what happened? God showed up!!
As we studied and looked deep into God’s Word (Luke 10:1-20) we saw an amazing challenge that Jesus gave his 72 followers. This is what that challenge looked like…
- He dared them to go into the fields…and in this case harvest.
- He dared them to bless the curious with God’s peace.
- He dared them to “eat and drink” and have fellowship with the curious.
- He dared them to have “Good News Conversations” expressing that God’s Kingdom is within reach.
- He dared them discern the interest and to leave in peace and remind them the promise of God’s Kingdom being near.
So we challenged the GreenHouse disciples to do the same. Discern the fields….bless the people…fellowship with the curious…have “Good News Conversations”…and remind the careless of God’s love. Each day they were dropped off in the city centre armed with cash, creativity, prayer, and eyes to see where God was moving.
The result. There were moments of them tilling the soils of people that had no idea about the Gospel. There were moments of planting seeds in the hearts of teenagers and adults they had conversations with. There was a moment of harvest for a homeless man as he discovered that Jesus was the bridge to God…and that God was no longer angry with him.
This was a week that God helped open the GreenHouser’s to see the endless opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus with people. They were able to discern when someone needed encouragement, hope, and grace. They were able to move from empathy to advocacy.
In all I think there were 35 significant conversations through the week. They tilled, planted, and harvested the fields this week. They also had to engage with Colossians 3, Galatians 5, and Philippians 2 to defeat disunity. We witnessed movement from being housemates to the family of God serving one another, bearing one another in love.
Please be praying for Christoph, Matt, Mattia, and Ashley as they continue to contemplate how God used them in Belfast and His desire for their lives daily.
